The title for this series came about because of a long time fascination with science text book illustrations. The images are ordinary, everyday objects, often passed over as uninteresting art subjects. I see these images metaphorically as building blocks or in this case parts drawn from a whole. Like pages torn from a text the paintings have a history of what they represented together and where they originated from. This work in its early stages was six panels combined as one. The lines that run through each painting form an oval that connects all six panels and a letter indicates each panel’s order. Once separated each piece stood on its own, but still carried a history, a part of a whole, a page from a book.
Each panel has a signature wood block attached this serves as a key to clarify the activity in the painting. From these blocks prints were produced, including a series of colour screen prints.
